WHAT THEY MEAN TO ME

by Allison Crews

Breasts.

Hooters, Knockers, Tits.

These are supposed to be perky?

Am I supposed to find a bra with just the right fit?

Gone from Smooth, Firm, and Creamy

To Wrinkled, Red, and Milky.

Where'd I lose the ones that grew on me?

Where'd I find these lifeless bags?

Engorged, Leaking, Painful Feedings.

Sack of glands for a growing imp,

Saved only to be touched by tiny, chubby hands,

Reserved only to be seen by new, innocent eyes.

Learning, Accepting, Beautiful feeling.

These are the honor of a woman.

Weathered for decades longer that I have even lived.

My peers search and look at the lacy shop in the mall.

I support mine with internet-found elastic cups,

Or my hands, or hungry lips, or nothing at all.

They shake when I walk,

Their fiery lines silently burn as a symbol of my love and growth.

From a girl who knows nothing,

To a woman who holds life at her chest.

Yes, my breasts mean all of that to me.
