A Warehouse of Breastfeeding Information
After nurturing your baby for 9 long months inside your own body, would you want to give her an inferior food? That is what countless doctors recommend everyday. That is exactly what formula is -- inferior food. If your doctor is recommending an inferior food, think twice about your doctor. If you truly value your baby and his health then you should know how detrimental formula can be. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive (nothing else) breastfeeding for a minimum of six months and continuing breastfeeding for at least a year. The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding for two years or beyond. Research shows the average natural weaning age to be 2-7 years old. This may seem shocking to you, but in light of recent research in regard to breastmilk and the dangers of formula I think you will find it actually quite reasonable. The more scientific studies that are done about breastmilk, extended (natural) nursing and attachment parenting, the more conclusive the findings are: Babies who have their needs met early and often and continue to have them met throughout childhood are more independent, self-assured, self-reliant, compassionate and mentally healthy. Babies who are not offered breastmilk are found to have many more health problems, including, but not limited to, ear infections, colic, allergies, digestive troubles and respiratory infections. Formula-fed babies are 14 times more likely to be hospitalized in their first year than their breastfed counterparts. By breastfeeding, you offer your baby protection against hospitalization and disease.
Every time you nurse your baby, she is given the most perfect nutrition available in the world. Breastfeeding your baby for longer than the cultural norm, although sometimes not easy, is a way to change the increasing decline in the overall health of our country. Nursing your baby as long as is mutually beneficial to both of you gives him a foundation of health that cannot be duplicated from a can. Having a baby is a commitment like no other in the world. When you look into the eyes of your newborn, know that you possess the natural ability to nurture this baby and give her the best start in their life with nothing other than your own body for 6 months. The power of women to make a difference in this world is immense. By educating and supporting each other, we can truly change the world.

I do believe that formula has its place, but only in very limited situations. It should not be given away or presented as an equal option. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends formula fourth as an infant food option, just above goat milk and cow milk. Yet every day, women are misinformed as to what is best for their baby. If you are one of these women that were misinformed, please learn what you can do now. Please join me in my quest to help inform each other of our natural power to raise our children at our breast.
